So many of us are searching, and yearning for validation. We seek the affirmation of strangers, friends, and family on a daily basis. Of course many of us have realised that this striving is ceaseless, and senseless. Yet we continue, painfully and consistently. There is very little getting around it though. We are inevitably wired for connection, admiration and praise. Unfortunately, I believe that at the root of our desire we are inquiring of our worth. Am I worthy of love? Am I worthy of attention? Am I significant?
It is an endless cycle of course. We gain the attention of others, we thrive on it, and then pursue it shamelessly. We pine, and pursue affirmation and thrive on it. Ultimately, if we fail to obtain the attention that we seek, we turn inward, regroup, then proceed to pursue attention elsewhere. It is a paradigm that leaves us spinning, and off balance.
